Elim Community Church is a thriving community of Christ-followers, on the Burnfoot estate, Hawick on the Scottish borders.
We are committed to teaching and living the Truth found in the Bible as we worship, pray, share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, care for one another and serve our community, nation and world.
The church was birthed out of Y.W.A.M. outreach in Hawick and began as New Life Christian Fellowship on 13th Sept 1981 when Bill Scobie, Scottish Director of Youth With a Mission was ordained and inducted as Pastor. We met in community centres and hotels until the late 80’s when a disused R.C. church building was purchased on the Burnfoot estate.
Rev. Charlie Gellaitry & his wife Joan (Portobello Baptist Church) joined Bill & Christine Scobie in the ministry May 1983. A little later Rev. Ronnie Burns & his wife Irene became part of the Pastoral team. In 1986 the name was changed to Abundant Life Church.
The main outreach has always been amongst children and for many years we have had good Sunday school. In April 2012 Bill Scobie retired due to ill health.
After prayerful consideration the decision was made to apply for membership into Elim Pentecostal Movement. The due process began in June 2012 In Jan. 2013 Ronnie Burns was appointed Interim Pastor.
We were accepted into the fellowship of the Elim churches at Conference of April 2013 and in November 2013 we joyfully invited Rev. Chris van Staden, along with his wife Christine to become our Pastor.
The journey has been an exciting one as the relationship with the rest of the Elim movement has grown. Our members are blessed as they discover the joy of belonging to a movement that is like a family. The support and encouragement received from Elim leadership has been outstanding.
